Visit the beautiful and nostalgic Old Town in Bridlington. A hidden corner of the town, steeped in history, great shopping and delicious food. Find out more...
I'm sure that many people visiting this seaside town will not even realise that there is a whole separate section of the town for people to visit...
The Old Town is well away from the main seafront, and commercial high street - both in distance and atmosphere!
It is certainly well worth taking the time to visit - the 'Old Town', as the name suggests, is a quaint, old-fashioned area, full of historic buildings, and interesting little boutiques, art galleries, antique shops and restaurants.
The Old Town aims to to be the area of the town devoted to:
heritage
the arts
antiques
good food
specialist shopping
There is certainly lots to see here, and you could browse for hours in the many little galleries, boutiques, antique shops and gift shops.
There are no big chainstores here - (although you can find financial resources at the bank - HSBC) - so, take your time to find a unique and unusual souvenir of your trip here...
The Old Town originally grew up completely separately to the centre that grew up around the harbour and quayside.
The town was known as 'Burlington' until relatively recently - some older people still refer to the Old Town by this name.
The Old Town has many historic buildings, including an attractive Georgian High Street - one of the the most complete in the whole of Britain!
The Old Town really is quite separate from the seafront town, so don't try to walk there.
There is a well-signposted public carpark (at Market Place/Stepney Grove) or you may be able to park on the street close to the Priory and Bayle Gate, outside busy and peak periods.
