British Camping Holiday Review

It is a couple of years since we stayed at the Serenity Caravan Park near Whitby, in the village of Hinderwell.
It's got to be one of the nicest small caravan parks around Whitby - a great choice for a quiet and relaxing British camping holiday...
We went there while we still had our Bedford Rascal campervan (in blue - very sweet, but sadly too small to fit us and a rather large greyhound... it had to go!)
- The campsite is a quiet, adults only campsite ('serenity' by name as well as nature..!) and is one of a number of caravan parks near Whitby.
- It is a very pleasant, small campsite, open to caravans, motorhomes and tents. There is a separate field for tents, which is nice.
- The owners were friendly and welcoming when we arrived, showing us where to park our campervan, and where the facilities were.
- The camping field was spacious, well kept and even, looking out onto open fields at the bottom.
- There was easy access to water, and electric hook-up.
- A toilet/shower block was available. This was clean, tidy and with lovely warm water in the shower, and a nice large vanity area with mirrors, for washing and getting ready.
- A kitchen area was also available. Again this was scrupulously clean, with excellent facilities for:
- washing up
- draining and drying
- a fantastic large fridge freezer - we left food in it throughout our stay
- washer/drier
- a microwave - very handy for those lazy meals, when campsite cooking seems just too much effort!
The Serenity Caravan Park lived up to its name - It was a lovely quiet park, where it was really easy to just relax and enjoy the surroundings...
Although when we arrived, the weather was quite warm, and with a Summer feel (a pleasant surprise for late September and a British camping holiday!), overnight calm Summer breezes turned to howling gales...
We were kept awake until the early hours by the flapping of our campervan's awning, and eventually got up to take it down completely in the early hours...
In the morning, we chatted to the solitary tent campers, who had been similarly kept awake by the flapping of the tent canvas - and did express themselves thankful that it was still standing in the morning!
Well, the Serenity Caravan Park, Whitby, cannot be blamed for the overnight weather... so inspite of a rather sleepless night, it still gets a firm thumbs up for an excellent British camping holiday.
We don't have our little campervan any more, but do have a nice new tent, so we still intend to return, for a bit more 'serenity' - perhaps on a less windy occasion..!
