Burton Agnes Hall Snowdrops
by Charlotte
(East Yorkshire)
I went to see the snowdrops at Burton Agnes Hall near Bridlington yesterday (5 Feb 2011)...
...how lovely!
The woodland walk is filled with tiny, beautiful snowdrops, nodding gracefully in the breeze!
What a lovely start to Spring - and it really made me feel like better weather is just around the corner, after such a long winter!
The gardens are open too (the Hall itself is closed) - lovely and peaceful - although there isn't much about - some nice looking cabbages and brussel sprouts in the walled garden though...
...and the formal gardens, of course, look as pristine and well tended as usual.
The woodland walk is well signposted around, the woods, to make sure you don't miss out on the best of the snowdrops.
They were lovely, although I think they will probably be at their best in perhaps a week or 2, as the flowers weren't wide open yet.
Also visit the shops and cafe area - there were lots of lovely plants for sale - some beautiful snowdrops (best planted 'in the green' (rather than as bulbs))...
...and some lovely colourful iris in all shades of blue...
The prices are
very reasonable, so I was tempted by a lovely pale blue iris, a heuchera, some grasses and a lovely looking choisya (which I'd admired in the garden)...
(...all now happily planted up in my garden now).
The Gardens are open from 5 February 'til 6 March 2011 - from 11am 'til 4pm every day (check for exact openings in future years).
It cost just £4 per adult to enter (2011).
