Perhaps, like me, you have always had a fascination for lighthouses... the integral strength and power of that spindly tower as it battles the full strength of the elements... and the sense of nature, romance and mystery...

Every lighthouse has it's own tale to tell, and seems to hold real secrets and mysteries inside...

Well, I can't promise an unveiling of any mysteries, but I do have lots of interesting and useful information about the lighthouses of the Yorkshire east coast...

The Yorkshire coast is a truly beautiful area, so whether you live in the area, or are paying us a visit for a short break or longer holiday, I am sure you will enjoy checking out some of these beautiful, interesting and majestic buildings...

Our lighthouses work very hard for us, to protect us - but they've got a picturesque, historical and curious interest too!

They've always been important in Yorkshire history - a little of which I hope to bring to life on these pages - as well as all the modern and practical stuff you need to know about visiting Yorkshire east coast lighthouses...

At the moment, one of our lighthouses is even getting involved in some charity work!

Yes, Withernsea Lighthouse is at the centre of a project to raise money for a variety of charities - and we hope it will soon be sporting a long scarf.

Yorkshire knitters will create the scarf to raise money for:

• Withernsea Lighthouse
• RNLI
• Yorkshire Air Ambulance
• Withernsea and District Disability Action Group

The scarf will then be donated to Oxfam, who will be able to use it for blankets.
