Great ideas for eating out in Yorkshire. Wolds Village restaurant, tea room, shop and accommodation is one of our favorites, and ideally situated for countryside, coast and the city of York. Let the 'Unofficial Guide' tell you more... One of our favourite places for eating out, morning coffee or afternoon tea is Wolds Village restaurant and tea-room at Bainton. This isn't exactly on the Yorkshire coast, but I have included it on my website as we find it a great place to stop off on a drive to the coast - or ideal for exploring a little further afield. Wolds Village is only about 25 miles from the coast - the perfect distance for an afternoon drive out (for afternoon tea of course!) Wolds village isn't just a restaurant. There are also:
This is actually one of our very favourite places for eating out in Yorkshire, or to stop for a coffee, and a browse in the gift shop and gallery. We haven't stayed here yet, as it is a little too close to home, but the photos of the rooms look wonderful! Each room is luxuriously decorated in a different historical era - fantastic! Eating Out - Yorkshire StyleWe can definitely recommend the restaurant and tea rooms at Wolds Village for a coffee, lunch, light snack or a full evening meal. We come here frequently - usually for a coffee and cake - but also visit regularly for a light lunch, or a special occasion meal - Ian's Dad's 80th birthday celebration was held here, as was my sister's 20th birthday meal. The food is really delicious - and the menu is something a cut-above the usual pub food - delicious eating out Yorkshire. Definitely leave room for dessert! The desserts are sublime - and very big! Choose your dessert as you enter by sneaking a peak at the tempting desserts cabinet on the right. If you stop for morning coffee or afternoon tea, try the chocolate scone - still a personal favourite after many years of dessert sampling here! Its wonderful - a taste sensation you won't forget! The restaurant is housed in a series of historic rooms - a charming and relaxing atmosphere. We like to take coffee in the sunlit conservatory area (take a peek into the deep well set by the main counter), where we can watch the comings and goings in the courtyard. In the Summer months, enjoy your meal outside, in the courtyard itself. Wolds Village is open:
Booking is generally advisable for evening meals and Sunday lunches. Crafts, Art and ShoppingAnother of the attractions of the Wolds Village complex is the shopping! There is a lovely craft and gift shop - a veritable emporium - packed (literally!) to the rafters with gorgeous bits and pieces, crafty stuff, clothes, cards, jewellery, antiques and wonderful gifts - you'll spend ages browsing! Much of the stock are individually crafted pieces, from local crafts people, so you are sure to find something that little bit different, as a holiday souvenir, or as a gift for family and friends. Visit the art gallery too - some beautiful art and photos to admire and buy - some are very reasonably priced. Collections change regularly. Also on site are furniture restoration workshops. AccommodationAlthough we do really live a bit close, it hasn't put me off, and I'm still really keen on the idea of staying in the guest accommodation at Wolds Village. It has been recently refurbished, from an old stables, and now encompasses rooms from different time periods - all very luxurious looking and incredibly beautifully done:
I think it would be a real treat to stay in any one of these attractive rooms - although I think for myself, the Victorian room would be my first choice. Where's Wolds VillageWolds Village, Bainton, is ideally situated in the beautiful East Yorkshire Wolds - a great location for exploring the countryside, visiting the coast, or the attractive historic city of York.
