Well, everyone jokes about England weather – even those of us who live here… well, to be honest, especially those of us who live here…
I will say that the jokes and ‘rumours’ about Yorkshire and England weather are usually based in some sort of reality… :oD
…but please don’t let this put you off. England weather can be cold, wet and grey… but it is just as likely to be gloriously sunny, with fresh, blue skies! (It’s not all wild moors and 'wuthering heights' in Yorkshire!)
The Yorkshire coast is, of course, an area where the weather is noticeable – especially areas right on the coast, such as Whitby weather, or Scarborough weather. Indeed, Bridlington, in years gone by, actually used to advertise itself as ‘Bracing!’ – and, at times, it certainly can be!
This can make for some wonderful, baking hot seaside days, and for some very dramatic and spectacular seascapes, sunsets, sunrises etc.

England weather creates an ever-changing landscape – and whatever the weather, it is always beautiful…
Don’t expect anything from England weather when you come to Yorkshire, and I think you will be well prepared. Come prepared for all weathers and you should be fine – particularly if you are planning on taking walks on the beautiful and dramatic North York Moors.
In winter the weather can be cold and damp in Yorkshire, so pack a warm and waterproof coat.
We do get some snow, but usually only a few days each winter.
In summer the weather is quite temperate and pleasant – lovely sunshine, but not unbearably hot.
We do get the odd showery day from time to time, so it is a good idea to pack a jumper and light raincoat, in case you get caught out.
(Do also pack some sun protection, as it can get very hot, too.)
Before you set out for the day, it is always a good idea to check the local weather forecast:
Don’t worry if it does happen to rain while you are with us. There are plenty of rainy day activities around the Yorkshire east coast – Don’t let rain spoil your day…
Take a look of this list of things to do, for fun family days out in the area. Look out for attractions listed with a * in my list. These are all suitable for a rainy day.
Being prepared for whatever the weather has to throw at you is a good frame of mind to come to Yorkshire with...!
Don’t let this worry you at all - I was saying it a bit tongue-in-cheek, after all! :o) We do have some really gorgeous, hot sunny days – especially in Spring, Summer and Autumn.
I do hope the weather is good to you on your trips out – remember don’t forget your brolly - and above all, enjoy your day out.
