Feversham Arms @ Farndale... comment from a non walker

by Valerie O'Neill
(East Cleveland UK)

I had the unfortunate experience, today, of having Sunday Lunch.

Firstly the Yorkshire puddings were inedible as were the so called roast potatoes.

I prefer my vegetables served in a tureen so that I can choose the amount I want to eat.

I am a small eater and my plate was piled so high with food I was immediately over phased and put of even attempting to eat it.

There was absolutely no finesse about your service and food presentation even down to the serving of sauces from a tear off pack. Day light robbery @ £8.95.

Two customers who will not be returning as I can do infinitely better myself.

What a shame!
by: Charlotte

What a shame you didn't enjoy your meal Valerie!

I agree the portions are certainly huge - just right for hungry walker tummies though!

We actually really enjoyed our meal here - you can read our review here...

What do other readers think? Have you eaten here? Do you agree with Valerie?

Do add your comments and let us know....

Not Welcome at the Feversham Arms!
by: James

Dont go to the Feversham Arms when the shooting season is on. The Hospitality is Nil.

I went on Thursday 28t October 2010, with Wife, Son and Grand Children. We walked into the Fevesham Arrms, to be greeted by, This is a Private shoot party. If you would like a drink you wil have to go out-side.

I was on a nostalgia day out. I lived in Farndale 45years ago. This was the best part of my life when I was living in Farndale.

The Faversham Arms at that time was also a Farm. It was my job to go each morning to get the milk. I also went to the litle school up the road, then to te Big school at Bedelam.

It was really upsetting to get that reception.

We went up to the Lion at Blakey Top.
Great Meal great reception. friendly people.

Well done Lion Inn!
by: Charlotte

What a shame James!

But thank you so much for sharing your experiences, and particularly your warm memories of your earlier life living in the area - sounds great!

Glad you managed to have a lovely meal in any case, if not quite where you had intended - and well done to the Lion Inn at Blakey Top for saving the day!

Thanks for sharing!

Response to Valerie O'Neills comment
by: Rachel LandLady Feversham Arms

The review from Valerie O'Neill does not seem to reflect the good comments, appreciation and awards provided to us by recognised bodies and the regular customers who return time and time again.

We are a country inn providing traditional home cooked pub food and should not be compared with a restaurant which we do not profess to be. Our growing customer base supports this statement.

However for those with a smaller appetite the menu clearly states half size portions are available.

Response to James
by: Rachel Landlady Feversham Arms Inn

We are open to all customers during our normal opening times that are clearly displayed. Outside of these hours we do cater for private parties, shoots, weddings funeral etc. If we can we will always try to supply weary travellers with refreshments outside of normal hours if we available to do so.

Thank you very much for your response Rachel
by: Charlotte

Thank you for your response Rachel...

...sometimes it can be a little disconcerting for customers, I expect, if things aren't exactly what they were expecting, or used to at their own locals...

...but this pub has it's own unique style and that's what makes it so successful and a favourite with so many!

I think the fact it does get such repeat custom, and so many verbal recommendations is a good testament that the pub is great at what it does!

The pub was recommended to us by one of Ian's friends, who is quite a regular, I believe, and we really enjoyed our meal here!

We would definitely go back - and would definitely recommend it to others!

Thanks very much for your feedback, Rachel.

Food
by: the biker

In the summer I call in while out on the motorbike, great welcome!

Their scampi is a gut buster - never heard anybody complain, also the gammon is tender.

I don't like rabbit food so they add onion rings/mushrooms etc for no extra.

Expect me soon!

Reply to Landlady Reply

You pub was open it had signs up all outside saying Open and Meals. I had travel some miles that day to look around Church Houses, with my family.

So as there was a Private Party why did they NOT take the signs in?

As I said even one of the Shoot Party sat outside was shocked at the reception we got.

My Son & Wife that was with me, are both in the Catering trade.

So, sorry Feversham Arms at Farndale - I will not be calling back & will be telling other people about the way we were turned away.

VERY long wait for food!
by: Anonymous

Review - We were looking forward to a lovely day out today along the Daffodil walk in Farndale. Unfortunately it was ruined after waiting an 1hr and 50 minutes for our meal to arrive, at the Feversham Arms Pub.

It was very busy, but we were told the wait would be 1/2 hour when we placed our order (they even told other customers who arrived 20 mins after us the same!).

We did not get an apology and it would have been much better if they had been honest with the waiting time in the first place (or not to take any more orders).

We were not the only ones who had to wait! There was a whole room full of customers (about 15) complaining ALL waiting for food!

Food - 3/5 (wasn't worth the wait!), service minus 5/5 (absolutely shocking!)

We will never go there again!

Feversham Arms Inn
by: Richard (Land Lord)

Dear Reader. I am disappointed you did not enjoy your meal yesterday. We had a good days trade which was welcome after the long winter.

We received a lot of compliments and believe we are good value for money.

The Feversham Arms Inn is a traditional country inn serving good quality pub grub. The vast majority of the meals are all home cooked serving local produce. We do not pretend to be a fashionable restaurant.

Most of our customers are delighted with the meals.

We will continue to serve the large portions to those who want them or alternatively the half portions are available at £5.50 for those who have smaller appetites.

We believe this is excellent value.
Cheers
Richard

Good honest food at good honest prices
by: Mr A Hare

Having stayed just a short walk away from the Feversham Arms in May 2010 our party of 10 visited the pub twice in our week long stay.

I can honestly say from all 10 of us the food was excellent, the staff were so friendly and helpful and without a doubt a fantastic pub with lovely views to top it all off.

It was that enjoyable that when myself, wife and 2 children visited the area again in July 2010 we travelled 28 miles from our holiday cottage just to enjoy a lovely meal once again and we were not disappointed.

This is one happy customer who will be returning again this August plus 9 members of family too.

Great pub!
by: Anonymous

I live nearby the Feversham Arms, and happen to think its great, lovely warm atmosphere, plenty of tasty food on your plate, not massively expensive, and the people are really friendly.

Its the best local I've ever had!

Warm welcome always
by: Mr&Mrs Shaw

Just back from another delicious meal at The Feversham Arms. We have been regular customers now for several years.

Rachel always has a friendly smile and is very welcoming.

We had a foggy drive from Saltburn, but the warming open fire soon made us feel very cosy!!!

Keep up the good work.......see you very soon xx

EXCELLENT
by: TRACEY

We have been going to the Feversham Arms in Farndale for sometime now, and NEVER once have we had a bad meal or experience.

Rachel is an excellent landlady and ALWAYS greets you with a smile - new customers as well as old.

Even at busier times we have NEVER been turned away - maybe had to wait a little longer than the quieter times of the year, but who cares when you know that the food is the best around by far.

We have'nt found anywhere better, we unfortunately haven't managed to get there for a couple of months, but we know when we next go the welcoming will be as if we were there only last week.

Keep up the EXCELLENT work, we love it X

Thank you for your hospitality Rachel and Richard

We will be back in 2012
