We review our meal at Hadleys - one of the most popular fish restaurants in Whitby, Yorkshire. Find out what we thought...
We ate lunch in the busy and popular Hadleys fish restaurant in Whitby.
This was a busy restaurant, with smart but simple decor - very unpretentious. Nice padded leather chairs for comfort though.
It was very busy, but the noise was not overwhelming. We were lead to our table by the friendly and efficient staff.
The menu is a simple, fish and chips menu, plus other options too, and a children's menu - ideal for one of the most popular fish restaurants in Whitby...
Menu choices (From the date of our visit - July 2010)
Fish and Chips (Cod, Haddock or Plaice)
Scampi and Chips
Egg and Chips
Fishcake and Chips
Sausage and Chips
Beefburger and Chips
Vegeburger and Chips
Steak Pie and Chips
Vegetarian Lasagne and Chips
Chicken and Chips
Chicken Tikka Curry and Chips
The meals come with a slice of bread and butter.
Good prices, nothing fancy, but the food came quickly, it was hot and there was plenty of it.
I had the Cod Special (a smaller portion of cod and chips) for £6.25.
Ian had the Scampi and Chips with salad garnish, for £8.45.
There was actually plenty in the 'small' meal, including a very large, chunky cod.
The food was hot and tasty - very nice - it was all crisp, and well cooked.
When the staff bring your drinks, they bring you the bill on a little tray, and you are requested to pay the server when they bring you the food.
The meal was good, but the restaurant can get very busy - it's clearly very popular, which is always a good sign! - people were actually queuing down the street to get in, by the time we left!
The staff were efficient and very friendly - but did have an air of 'busy-ness' - like I said before, it was busy!
People don't tend to linger over their meals here - although you aren't, in any way, made to feel unwelcome, or like they want you to leave - it must just be the general hustle and bustle - and the fact you've already paid up!
Our meals came to about £16 in total - for:
2 meals
a pot of tea
bread and butter
blackcurrant squash
A good deal and hot, tasty food at a proper fish restaurant in Whitby.
Accommodation is also available (rooms).
