Gillian in Whitby

by Gillian Brown
(Greater Manchester)

I only visited Whitby for the first time about 4 years ago for the Goth festival & fell in love with the place right away.

What a beautiful, charming, proper old-fashioned (& I mean that kindly) seaside town it is.

I've been back many times since with my husband & (occasionally) our adult children & I never tire of it. I love the little streets & alleyways down which can be found numerous fascinating shops (OH to be a lottery winner!)

The abbey is simply stunning & last Halloween looked fabulous all lit up & the events staged there were really interesting - I hope this will become a regular feature.

Whitby Abbey Illuminated

I don't want this to become too long & boring so will simply say that personally, I can't think of anywhere nicer to spend a few days away & to that end, am visiting again this Sunday (27th June) as it is our 25th wedding anniversary on the 28th & am not interested in parties or anything like that - a day in Whitby will be all the celebration I need!!

My quick tip for a cuppa & cake - Sanders Yard cafe - yummy.

Picture to follow.

Wonderful Whitby
by: Charlotte

Hello Gillian

I'm so glad you love Whitby - its a fantastic place - and I feel just that way about it too.

I'm quite jealous as I've never quite managed to get there at Halloween, and would love to see the Abbey like that! Maybe this year!

I nearly always have a day out in Whitby as my birthday treat :o) but this year am going one better and managing a whole week's holiday in Whitby right before my birthday. Can't wait!

I do hope you had a lovely day out in Whitby on Sunday - and many congratulations on your wedding anniversary today xxx

I would love to see your Whitby photo, and I will email you separately with my email address - if you email it to me I can add it on here, when you are ready.

Thanks for getting in touch and sharing your special memories of Whitby.

Best Wishes

Charlotte x
