We stopped for our lunch at the Inn on the Moor in the village of Goathland in Yorkshire.
This is a large hotel, next door to the Garage, which serves meals and bar snacks...
There is also a separate restaurant area, very welcoming, with pretty flowers arranged on large tables, and a light and airy conservatory area.
There is also a beer garden for the Summer months.
We ate in the bar, from a full menu of bar snacks...
Menu included:
- Soup
- Rolls
- Sandwiches
- 2 Steak dishes
- Gammon
- Duck
- Lamb
- Quiche
- Deep Fried Brie
- Whitby Scampi
- Cod and Chips
- Chicken Curry
Meals were priced at around £10-£12 each (correct at the date of our visit - March 2010).
Ian had the Duck, served with Raspberries and veg, and I had Deep Fried Brie, served with chips and salad.
The food came quickly and we were serve by a very professional and friendly waitress. The landlord at the bar was also very helpful and welcoming, and Ian really enjoyed the 'Landlord Ale'.
Our food was very professionally presented - quite beautiful - and there was a real plateful!
Ian really enjoyed the flavours of duck and raspberry, and I loved the fresh fruit in my salad - it was all quite yummy and lovely.
Overall, this was a surprisingly good meal - beautifully presented, well cooked and very tasty...
The atmosphere was easy, welcoming and relaxed - we would definitely come again!

From the main car park in the village, and the main street, continue to the Garage on your left - the Inn on the Moor is just beyond, right next door.
There is also car parking available at the Inn itself.

After lunch, we enjoyed a walk down to the nearby Mallyan Spout Waterfall, within the village of Goathland.
