Hornsea Tourist Information

View of Hornsea seafront

Unofficial Guide to Hornsea...

Let us guide you through all the essential tourist information...

Why we like this little seaside town, what there is to see and do here... Where to stay and where to eat...

This is a lovely, quaint little town, with a lovely long seafront and beach.

Our Story

Me and Ginger on Hornsea seafront Hornsea is our closest seaside town - only about 45 minutes (to an hour) from home...

...so we quite often end up there, when we are looking for an easy and quick seaside day out at the Yorkshire coast.

I like the town and seaside because it is little, quite old-fashioned and quiet.

We actually prefer it in the Winter - in the height of Summer, the roads through the town get quite busy, and the sea-front can get quite crowded too...

In the wintertime, the town has a slightly lost, nostalgic feel, and the town feels perfectly at one with the massive seas...

Town and Shopping

  • The town itself is quite pleasant. You probably wouldn't make a special trip out just to visit the shops, but there are some interesting little shops to catch your fancy and encourage you to browse a while - and you might just find the perfect gift!
  • The shops are little gifty, boutique-type shops, rather than big, chain-store types - which, for us, all adds to the charm of the little town...
  • If you are after some serious shopping there is definitely something here to interest you! Visit the Freeport Outlet Shopping Village on the site of the old Pottery.
  • The old Pottery factory does not exist any more - very sadly! But you can see displays and history of Hornsea Pottery in the town museum.

The Seaside

Enjoying a stroll along Hornsea seafront

  • For us, the main attraction here, has got to be the sea - that's the seafront and the beaches...
  • The town has a lovely long seafront promenade, and great, wide, sandy beaches.
  • More about the Beach and Seafront

The Mere

  • You might notice it as you drive into the town from the south - you can't miss the Mere. This is the largest freshwater lake in Yorkshire.
  • The Mere is a real birdwatchers' paradise - and a fantastic place just to stroll and unwind with nature, or enjoy boating and watersports.

    More about the Mere, here...

This is a lovely, quaint little town, with a surprising amount to see and do - and a really fantastic beach and seafront, for whiling away those long Summer (or Winter) afternoons...

I hope you enjoy your days out in the UK, weekend breaks or longer holidays in Hornsea - a lovely, quiet, old-fashioned place to visit...
