...nestled in the tranquil and beautiful North York Moors. Ryedale Folk Museum, craft workshops, gift shops, tea rooms...
...lots to see and do...
Hutton le Hole is a pretty, little village, nestled right in the hills, in the south-western part of the North York Moors - very popular with walkers.
Park in the walkers car park to the north end of the village... and take a little while to explore on foot...
The Village
The village centres around a picturesque, hilly, village green, with a pretty stream running through.
The houses surrounding are historic, and very attractive - giving an air of peaceful tranquility to the whole village.
You might see sheep grazing on the green - they roam freely throughout the village.
The church here contains furniture by Robert Thompson (of Kilburn). Look out for his tiny, carved mice that he includes somewhere on all his pieces.
The Ryedale Folk Museum
The main attraction to Hutton le Hole (aside from the essential 'prettiness' of the village itself), is the Ryedale Folk Museum...
This is actually quite a large, outdoor museum containing historical buildings from the Yorkshire moors and coast area - all carefully taken down and re-constructed stone by stone.
Interesting buildings include:
thatched cottage
manor house
photographers studio
Tudor glass kiln
craft workshops
farm buildings
'witch post'
Iron Age roundhouse
1950's post office
