© 2010 Leanne BroadbentThe inspiration of Leanne Broadbent’s work is initially derived from classic children’s literature and fairy tales told by authors such as Lewis Carroll and the Brothers Grimm.
Once Leanne is inspired by a scene within the tale she will then go out into the local environment to make records in her sketch book directly from the source. Leanne comments:
“I will normally have an idea of how I would like the final image to look like but until I go out and explore Yorkshire and its coastline I do not have definite plans because they change as the work progresses. However, on occasion I have stumbled onto something that I have been extremely inspired by and imagined straight away other tales that could include the new sketch.”

“The area in which I live is so beautiful that when I need to collect information from the natural world or even architecture I often do not have to go very far to find what I am looking for.”

After the composition has been decided she will then examine the old family archives to find the perfect figure to be drawn from and to include in the final work.
Finally Leanne will set to work combining all the different elements of her work using different mediums to create the desired effect. Leanne concludes:
“It all sounds quite methodical when it is written down in this manner but I feel that my work is like a living entity, it is always evolving and developing as it goes along and no two pieces of work are ever created in the same way.
You have to connect and feel what is required to make a new image; it comes from your heart, your eye, your head and your gut but a big part of it is the stimulation from the area around where I live!”
