Filey Beach Walk
by Jackie and Lou
(York)
We have just spent a wonderful week in Filey, walking on the beach almost every day.
When the tide is out (do not forget to pick up your tide tables), there is an amazing stretch of beach and you can walk along to Hunmanby Gap where there is a coffee shop and even further!
We have also walked up the tarmac road to The Bay Holiday Village, which is quite long and edged in parts with wire fencing as the site is still under construction.
However, the beach entrance is marked "private - residents only" but we made our way along to the John Paul Jones pub where we had a very tasty meal. We had met two ladies on our walk who told us about the pub and said we would be made very welcome.
Also recommended is Inghams fish and chip restaurant.
A visit to the Filey Museum in Queen Street is well worth it.

Hello Jackie and Lou
Thank you very much for sharing your trip to Filey, and pleased you had an enjoyable break.
That sounds a lovely walk along the beach - the beach at Filey and the one at Hunmanby Gap are both lovely - vast and beautiful!
We had a short holiday at The Bay, Filey last year (in November, right before the snows came down!)
We didn't make it into the pub there, as we were only there a short time, but it's good to know you would recommend it for a meal.
Thanks very much for your recommendations, and for sharing your Filey experiences.
Best wishes

Tea for Two
by Marie
(Devon)
Oh, how my partner and I miss the East Coast.
There is nothing like walking on Filey beach and finishing off with a nice cup of tea or coffee on the Coble Landing.
Afterwards a trip to the local garden centre at Reighton where there are loads of plants to choose from and cheap too!
I'd spend all day there if I could. The scent is lovely on a warm sunny day.
Moved to Devon recently from Hornsea and very home sick - can't wait to sell-up and return to the East Coast's beaches.
Neither can our dog Minty whose having withdrawal symtoms and missing her pals on Hornsea beach.

Hi Marie
It's nice to know that the Yorkshire Coast compares favourably with Devon's sunshine and cream teas!
Yes, I love to go to that little nursery too - it's great isn't it! So much variety and such good prices - it really does have a lovely atmosphere!
You'll have to come back up soon for a visit and stock up for your Devon garden.
Sorry you're feeling homesick - this really is a unique and lovely part of the world isn't it! I hope some of the pictures on my site can help bring back some happy memories for you...
... and help you pass the time between visits.
Hope to see you back up here soon
Thanks for sharing :o)
Best wishes

What to do in Filey - a Nice Walk
by Arthur R.
(W. Yorks.)
A pleasant walk is along the promenade from the Coble Landing to the Royal Parade, where you will find a cafe selling ice-cream.
Climb the steps leading up to the Boating Lake & Glen Gardens which is popular with families with children.
From here you can walk back through Crescent Gardens, where in the summer you will find a brass band playing on a Sunday afternoon.
The beach is popular with people of all ages.
The more energetic can walk out of the town high on the cliff along The Cleveland Way passing St Oswalds Church, the Country Park, Carr Naze & on to The Brigg where there are great views back to the town.
Other attractions are crazy golf, putting, maze, tennis, bowls, mini golf & a full 18 hole course. There is also a sailing club, indoor swimming pool, bird hides & a museum.
Hope you enjoy the walk!
Arthur
