We had a lovely lunch at the Watermark Cafe in the North Bay Scarborough...
After a week of unseasonably sunny weather this Spring, we decided to spend a Saturday morning in Scarborough...
Typically, of course, we managed to time the weather wrong, and it was cold and wet by the time we finally arrived in Scarborough.
We parked at the North Bay, for a brisk and very bracing walk along the seafront, and past the colourful North Bay beach chalets.
Come lunch-time, everyone seemed to have had the same idea - to get out of the cold - and all the cafes were jam-packed full! On our second attempt we manged to slip into a recently vacated table booth in the lovely Watermark Cafe.
The Watermark Cafe is a proper beach cafe (formerly the Cafe del Mar) but recently re-vamped, it is now a modern and stylish cafe, with a lovely, coastal feel.
It is right on Royal Albert Drive (the Scarborough North Bay seafront road), so it really is right on the seafront - and with fantastic sea views out to sea too, of course!
After about 10 minutes, a table by the window became free, so we quickly nipped into this, to enjoy the views!
The Watermark Cafe is very simply decorated in a coastal, or beach-hut style. At one end a woodburning stove is surrounded by comfortable chairs, coffee tables and breakfast bar seating, with shelves of books - perfect for a relaxing afternoon reading, all warm and cosy, when it's chilly outside!
The rest of the cafe (most of it) has quite small, retro-styled table and bench booths. There are also tables and chairs outside to make the most of sunny days!
Take-aways are also available.
Go up to the counter to order your food - meals are prepared freshly for you, and are brought to your table when ready.
The cafe seems to pride itself on serving quality food - lots of free-range and organic food, and fair-trade coffee served.

I had Whitby Scampi with chips and salad and Ian had a Burger in a bun, with bacon and cheese, which also came served with a small side salad.
Service was actually pretty quick - and the staff were very efficient and friendly.
Both of our meals were very tasty - good and hot - the food definitely tasted quality and fresh - and there was plenty of it, too!
The cakes in the display cabinet looked delicious too - we didn't have one though - we had to get back as the car-park ticket was running out!
The menu and food, were simple, but nice and fresh and tasted good.
This looks a lovely cafe and I think it would be a great spot to cosy up and shelter from the North Sea elements - or (hopefully!) to stay out of the sun.
