...its that big hill, with the memorial on top ... and its where they run the famous Olivers Mount motorcycle road races.
Oliver's Mount is a big hill on the south side of Scarborough, Yorkshire, overlooking the whole of the town.
It is not thought to have seen any prehistoric burials, following archaeological excavations, but surely a landmark like this has always been of significance in the lives of the peoples of the area...
It is thought the name Oliver's Mount comes from the 'legend' that it was from this site that Oliver Cromwell bombarded Scarborough Castle - although historians now think that this was highly unlikely.
Olivers Mount is a popular place to visit to enjoy the fantastic panoramic views across the whole of Scarborough.
You can park your car at the top, and stroll for a while in pleasant wooded areas, or enjoy a snack or meal at the cafe/restaurant here.
There is a 75ft tall memorial here to commemorate the dead of the World Wars.
Olivers Mount is probably most famous for the motorcycle road races held throughout the year on the circuit here.
This racetrack is unique on the British mainland as the only natural roads circuit - this means the racers use the winding and twisting roads that are already on the Mount.
The races every year are a huge draw to tourists, as well as locals, and the races themselves are truly spectacular and thrilling - allowing you to get a really close-up view of all the action! - and lots of famous names!
As well as the exciting road racing, for the rest of the year the Mount is a peaceful Country Park. Pleasant walks and trails are available to enjoy...
The are is also undergoing much actual and planned regeneration which will enhance and restore the whole area, making the most of it's features and creating a beautiful area, filled with activities for locals and tourists to enjoy...
