We review restaurants in Bridlington. We visit the Busy Bees Fish and Chip Restaurant close to Bridlington South Beach. Read what we thought... We had lunch out on a sunny Saturday in Bridlington in April (2011). We'd walked along the seafront on the Bridlington South Beach, and found a smart and contemporary fish and chip restaurant for lunch. It's called Busy Bees and is close to Bridlington Spa, and the harbour, on the south side of the seafront. This is a restaurant and take-away shop - with picnic benches outside, for summer take-away eating, too.
First impressions as we entered the restaurant area were very good - the restaurant was smartly done out with pale green walls, feature wallpaper, and a very contemporary look. It still felt informal, friendly and very welcoming though. Try to get sat by the long picture window, with great sea views across Bridlington South Beach - unfortunately we weren't lucky this time!
The restaurant was quite busy, but the staff were immediately very helpful, efficient and attentive. There was quite a lot of choice on the menu, even though this is primarily a fish and chip restaurant - so it did take us some time to decide...
MenuTypical menu includes:
I decided to have Homemade Fishcake and Chips and Ian had a Chicken and Mushroom Pie and Chips, which also came with mushy peas.
We waited a reasonable amount of time for our food, but this was by no means excessive, (maybe only 15-20 minutes!) and we had tea, coffee and bread and butter to enjoy - we did not mind in the least, and would barely have noticed, in fact, had the staff not humbly apologised for the delay... ...we were pleased to know our food was being cooked freshly, in any case! The food was piping hot when it arrived, and very nicely cooked...
My fishcake was extremely delicious - soft in the centre, and with a light and crispy batter. The chips were lovely and light too - no stodginess, greasiness, and definitely no fatty after-taste. I really enjoyed it!
Ian's pie was freshly made by Liggett's butchers in Bridlington - he said you could tell it was a 'proper homemade pie' (not just a heated-up, run-of-the-mill, supermarket pie!) Very tasty! Again, the chips were nice and light, and the mushy peas were soft and flavourful. The meals were neatly presented (gravy and mushy peas came in separate bowls), with care and attention clearly taken over cooking and serving. We both found our meals to be very tasty - nice and light-tasting - but nice big portions - neither of us could quite manage the last few chips! The staff all seemed very efficient, and were certainly all polite, friendly and very professional. Our waitress told us just to ask her if we needed a top up to our glasses of water (tap water), which we were very impressed by, as we've never been told this in any other restaurant! Our 2 meals with hot drinks came to just £15 - which we thought was really good value! Overall - very good, tasty food, in modern surroundings! This has just become one of our new favourite restaurants in Bridlington - Result! We'll definitely be coming here again! Restaurants in Bridlington on the Map - Busy Bees Fish and Chips
