Fish Restaurants in Whitby Reviewed - Graveleys
Find out more about Graveleys Fish Restaurant - in an enviable spot overlooking the sea - we ate here - find out what we thought....
Formerly 'Hudson's' and the 'Khyber Cafe' - under new management as of around June 2010.
We've been here before, under the guise of both of these previous restaurants in Whitby, here.
This was actually one of my favourite places to eat in Whitby, for the food, but also the whole experience, ambience and particularly the view!
We had an evening meal here (the restaurant now opens till 8.45pm in the evening - correct at the date of our visit - July 2010).
We were lucky to get here early enough to be shown to one of the window tables, by the friendly manager himself.
The view is stunning, so of course it's the first thing I want to write about - looking out to sea, with wonderful views of Whitby pier and Sandsend.
I can imagine if you were here for sunset, the experience and views would be utterly spectacular.
The decor is smart, simple and contemporary.
The staff were very friendly, cheerful and helpful.
The menu was varied - not just fish and chips, although fish and chips does, of course, feature....
The menu at the date of our visit included:
Special - Lobster Thermidore
Fish and Chips
Whitby Scampi
Halibut
Grilled and Fried Combo to Share
Steak Pie
Stuffed Chicken Breast
Gammon Steak
Sirloin Steak
Beef Burger
Salads, including:
Whitby Crab Salad
Prawn Salad
Cold Seafood Platter
Tomato and Basil Pasta
Light Snacks
Sandwiches
I had the Chicken, wrapped in Parma Ham, and stuffed with Cheese, with boiled potatoes, and a side salad, and a delicious mushroom sauce....
It was lovely - moist chicken with crispy ham, delicious buttery potatoes and a rich, creamy, mushroom sauce.
Ian had Haddock and Chips. It was lovely too - a very large haddock, which was light and crispy, with a fine batter. The chips were light and fresh too.
There was a separate dessert menu - we both chose Ginger and Rhubarb Cheescake with Cream.
It came topped with strawberries, and with lovely, spicy chunks of crystallised ginger, and a tangy, rhubarb compote - an excellent taste sensation - utterly delicious!
Rich and creamy, with a very thin biscuit base - perfect!
Sadly, there was no decaff coffee (they do stock it, they'd just run out) so we didn't linger longer to enjoy the view.
The restaurants in Whitby is fully licensed.
This was an excellent meal - and it must be one of the restaurants in Whitby with the very best views - a lovely relaxing experience, with delicious food.
Heartily recommended - and we will definitely be back!
