If you have a few minutes spare on Scarborough seafront, spend a little while visiting the RNLI Scarborough Lifeboat Station in the town's harbour. Find the Lifeboat Station right at the harbour end of Scarborough South Bay - it's quite easy to spot from the street, as you can see the lifeboat as you walk past.
....remember those who've lost their lives at sea, and remember the work of the brave men and women who risk their lives to ensure the safety of those at sea around Scarborough. The Scarborough Lifeboat Station is quite interesting, as it is one of the oldest lifeboat stations in the whole of the UK! A lifeboat was established in Scarborough in 1801. The current boathouse dates from 1940. The history of the Scarborough lifeboat is an interesting one, and a story full of tragedy, bravery, medals and honours, deservedly won! You can go into the lifeboat house and walk around the lifeboat there - there's lots of interesting history and info to read.
You can also walk up to a viewing platform to get a close-up look at the lifeboat. Don't forget to also visit the lifeboat shop, on site, with gifts, souvenirs and light snacks/confectionary.
