We visit The Golden Grid restaurant on Scarborough seafront...

We had a lovely Saturday lunch at one of the most famous and popular Scarborough restaurants, specialising in fish - The Golden Grid Fish Restaurant - also known as 'GG's.

The Golden Grid is right on the sea front, overlooking the harbour.

It is a smart, modern restaurant, with a relaxed and traditional air - and certainly a touch of class - it is definitely a fish 'restaurant' and not just another fish and chip cafe.

It is one of the larger Scarborough restaurants, with good dining over 3 floors. We ate in the first floor restaurant, with a lovely view out over the harbour - and all the people passing along the sea front below.

We were impressed to see the little girl at the next table was brought a colouring/activity sheet and some wax crayons to occupy her - which she seemed to enjoy very much.

The Golden Grid restaurant specialises in fish and seafood, and prides itself on its quality and choice...

...speciality fish and seafood is bought daily, fresh from Whitby nad Scarborough fish markets.

Fresh live lobsters are this Scarborough restaurants speciality - and are almost always available.

Local produce is always used where possible.

I asked for peppermint tea - although they normally stock this, they'd run out, so the manageress told me they'd sent out for some straight away...

...and a waitress kindly brought me a selection of alternative herbal teas to choose from - I chose a very refreshing lemon tea instead.

Our drinks came first, and were nicely served in a tea pot, with separate hot water jug, and milk jug (for Ian's tea).

The fish and chips were delicious - really light and fresh, with lovely moist and chunky fish - great light and crispy batter too - very tasty!

We both had small portions of fish and chips, but in spite of seeing lovely cakes in the dessert cabinets, we were both definitely too full for dessert! A nice amount!

We had a really nice meal here, and would definitely recommend this Scarborough restaurants tasty food, relaxed atmosphere and great service.

UPDATE - January 2012

We visited the Golden Grid again for lunch, meeting a friend.

Once again the service was excellent, portions were large (we had the small portions, too) and the food tasted great.

Well done Golden Grid!
