Visit the Scarborough Sea life Centre for a fun look at the mysterious world of the sea. Find out more....
For a fantastic day out for all the family, come rain or shine, visit the Scarborough Sea Life Centre.
The kids will enjoy discovering all the:
colorful fishes
jellyfish
seahorses
turtles
otters
seals
penguins
(....and they might even learn something too! ...sshhh!! Don't tell them though!)
The Scarborough Sea Life Centre is partly undercover, and partly outside, so can be enjoyed whatever the weather - it was a rather chilly day in January when we went.
The main 'ocean' tank was closed for refurbishment at the time of our visit, but this in no way detracted from our enjoyment in our visit. We spent a good few hours looking around the Sealife Centres.
Take note of the advertised feeding times, talks and activities throughout the day - we found them to be very interesting and informative. Choose from:
Otters
Seals
Penguins
Touchpool
You can also check out the feeding times , so that you can time your visit to catch feeding times for your favourite sea-creatures.
First stop for us were the very cute otters - a brother and sister, who fed on baby chicks, fish and peanuts.
Then we made our way towards the seal pool, and watched them bobbing and floating through the water...
Don't miss the seal hospital, where we saw a baby seal, only 5-6 weeks old, rescued from the beach.
And of course, also outside, are the ever-popular penguins...
Each penguin has a different coloured arm-band, to identify him/her. These are displayed around the penguin pool, so that you can easily spot which is which. We decided that Barney was our favourite...
Don't miss the special underwater viewing pods, so that you can more easily watch the penguins swimming beneath the surface - beautiful!
Back inside are a vast array of tanks filled with the weird and the wonderful from under the sea...
The route through the tanks has subdued lighting and atmospheric music, giving a very atmospheric feel, and focusing attention on the sea-creatures in the beautifully lit tanks.
We particularly liked:
Seahorses
Jellyfish
The Upside-down Jellyfish
Large tanks with the beautiful tropical fish...
The 'cow nose ray' - a large, beautiful and ghost like creature, swooping through the tanks
Everyone's favourite 'filmstar' - 'Nemo'
Giant turtles are in the large ocean tank, whilst there are smaller turtles and terrapins on the upper level.
The restaurant is also located up here, for snacks and light meals.
Also visit the gift shop in the foyer, for a fun souvenir of your visit.

Booking Online
If you are planning on visiting the Scarborough Sealife Centres, first go to the website (link provided later - keep reading...) and pre-book the tickets on there for the day you wish to go.
We saved nearly £10 on our tickets, booking the very morning we wanted to visit!
We paid online and printed out the tickets, then just handed them in at the desk when we got there.
Prices (for adults) were around £9 each, rather than over £14. Kids' tickets can be booked online for around £7, rather than over £10.
You can even save on the Annual Pass which seems very reasonable bought online, (only £20 for an adult, £15 for a child) and saves you money if you intend to visit more than twice in a year.
For more details about the Sealife Centres, facilities, opening hours, feeding times, or to book online, visit the official website...
