The Bay is a brand new holiday park, just outside of relaxed holiday destination, Filey.
It has already been open a couple of years, but there are still properties being built (as at November 2010) - we did not encounter any disruption from the ongoing building work during our stay.
The Bay is built with a real village feel:
streets and closes
different size properties - large houses to small apartments
pub, cafe and shops
surrounding country park amenity land, with lakes and ponds
direct access to beach
We arrived quite late (8.30pm) and went straight to the very smart reception area, to collect our key, and were directed to our holiday apartment...
The Accommodation
The holiday apartment was a 'Solo Apartment' - designed for 2 - or 2 adults plus a baby. Other properties can sleep up to 4, 6 or 8.
It has its own front door, inside a communal hallway. Some of the larger properties are self contained houses and cottages.
The properties are all privately owned, and individually furnished, so the interiors will vary in appearance, but those managed by Hoseasons will all, of course, meet a minimum Hoseasons standard.
You can also buy a property here, and let it out as a holiday property managed by the management company here.
The 'Solo' Apartment Filey self catering accommodation was actually quite spacious for two - the living room seating area was very cosy, but the bath and bathroom were very large.
The apartment was decorated in a lovely modern and simple style - quite minimal.
Lots of mod cons here:
dishwasher - take your own dishwasher tablets
washing machine - take your own washing powder - we had lots of use out of this, as we got slathered in mud from our visit to Cayton Bay
microwave
very large Freeview TV
DVD/CD
Inside the wardrobe were:
travel cot
high chair
hoover and mop
The heating was set to constant, and we just had to control the temperature with the thermostat (in the bedroom). We really appreciated the lovely warmth, as it was a particularly cold weekend.
Provided:
Bed linen
Towels and bath mat
Oven glove
A reasonable amount of toilet paper
Bring:
Washing up liquid
Washing up sponge
Tea towel
Dishwasher tablets
Washing Powder
Hand soap
It was a lovely comfortable apartment, with pretty much everything we needed.
The Grounds
We found The Bay Filey holiday park to be lovely and quiet - although it may get a lot busier in the Summer high season!
We had a good walk around The Bay Filey holiday park:
walking the dog we saw a beautiful sunrise
There are very attractive parkland areas with lakes, ponds and plenty of benches and seating
There is access fron the park to the beach - this is about 10 minutes walk from the accommodation, through the parkland
We only had the chance to go down to the holiday park beach once, just at dusk...
...sadly the tide was right in, so we didn't get the chance to enjoy it much...
The beach here sits between the beach at Filey and the beach at Hunmanby Gap so I would expect it to be very similar to these - flat and sandy!
Great for summer sunbathing or fun and games!
There is also a wartime concrete bunker on the beach here, as at so many of the beaches around here.
