Victorian England Holidays
Spital Farm Craft Centre and Camping

Victorian England holidays Spital Farm Craft Centre and Dickensian Christmas Village, Scarborough

Victorian England Holidays Style - Spital Farm

Get Dickensian nostalgia, at any time of the year, with a visit to Spital Farm Craft Centre and Dickensian Christmas Village, on the outskirts of Scarborough...

Spital Farm Craft Centre and Dickensian Christmas Village is the perfect place to visit to really get into the spirit of Victorian England holidays...

This is a quaint and unusual complex, catering for:

  • shopping
  • eating out in Scarborough
  • Camping and Caravan Club around Scarborough

Shopping

In the craft centre and Victorian, Dickensian Christmas village, you enter immediately into another world from a different era...

  • Wander down wonderfully replicated Victorian streets, with atmospheric lighting and music.
  • Browse in the little shops as you go, just as if you were on your real Victorian England holidays!
  • Each little shop contains unique and original products from very talented craftspeople.
  • We enjoyed discovering the beautiful wares from all the different tradespeople. Amongst the shops find:

    • a Toyshop - packed full of proper old-fashioned toys
    • a Christmas shop (not just for Christmas!)
    • a Woodturner
    • Ice Cream
    • Bakery and Confectioners
    • Artist and Photographer
    • Florist
(Correct at the time of our visit - January 2010).
  • Toilets are available inside.
  • There is plentiful, free car parking on site.

Eating Out in Scarborough

Don't forget to visit the nostalgic Tea Shop (The Ridings Tea Rooms), at the end of the street, where we stopped for our lunch...

  • The tea shop is cosy and old fashioned. It reminded me of my granny's house!
  • It's packed full of interesting pictures, plates, pottery and nick-nacks.
  • The soundtrack to the tea shop is old-time music - very inkeeping with the nostalgic feel.
  • Unfortunately this was a little too loud for me, but the very friendly staff obligingly turned it down for me, to a much more comfortable level.
  • There is an attractive tea garden also available for the warmer months.
  • Service is at the counter.
  • The food was good, wholesome and was served quickly.
  • On the menu find:
    • Hot and Cold Sandwiches
    • Jacket Potatoes - ours were very tasty, and were served with salad and crisps
    • Jam Sanwiches - for that true 'period' feel
    • Beef or Ham Sanwiches
    • Ploughman's Lunch
    • Soup
    • Cakes and Pastries
  • We certainly enjoyed our bite to eat here.
  • There is also on site the 'Spital Inn' (and restaurant) with bar. We weren't sure if this was open or not on our visit, so do check before you make your visit.

Driving towards Scarborough, take the A64 signposted towards Scarborough, and almost immediately turn left into the complex.
