We like a nice, short walk - but there are plenty of wonderful and more challenging walks - from day long hikes to 'challenges' and long distance walks to do over a few days or longer!
Here are some you might want to try:
Cleveland Way - National Trail - a large section runs along the coast
Esk Valley Walk - following the river Esk from its North York Moors source to Whitby
Lyke Wake Walk - famous long distance walk that has stopped being promoted to help protect the delicate eco-system of the moors
Newtondale Trail - moors and woodland walk linking to Noeth York Moors Railway stations
Scarborough Rock - route around Scarborough and environs
Scarborough Samaritans - Charity trek in 2 stages - Whitby to Scarborough
For more information, and guides, to these Long Distance Walks, and others, check out the Long Distance Walkers Association and search for the route you want information about.
I hope you enjoy your walks as much as we do... please check your routes on appropriate maps, and take care with the weather and take appropriate safety precautions.
We think the OS Explorer Series (1:25,000 Scale) Maps are the most suitable map if you are planning on doing country walks. These are larger scale than the usual 'tourer' map. This means that the detail appears bigger on the page.
These are a fun way to enjoy a walk and explore the area...
Specially designed walks, cycle-rides or drives, with lots to see and Murder Mystery, Spy and Treasure Hunt themes...
Ideal for keeping kids entertained!
