Withernsea - we're hooked!

by gillbatt
(Huddersfield)

We had our caravan moved from Bridlington to Withersea and wondered where we had come to, after being for the first weekend we were hooked, we love Withernsea. Withernsea is a quiet relaxing place but it is easy to get to lots of other places along the coast.

Hi Gillbatt

Thanks for your comments.

Yes Withernsea is an out of the way place.

So glad you've been caught - hook, line and sinker :) - and find it lovely and relaxing.

Where have you been that you've particularly enjoyed? ...in Withernsea or days out? Do let us know.

Thank you very much for sharing.

Best wishes

Totally Agree

Withernsea is a great base for Static owners. So many beautiful villages to explore nearby and Hull is only 40 minutes away.

We are now regulars at the Hull New Theatre which is one of the most beautiful theatres we have ever been to.

The art gallery and museums are also worth a visit - and they are free entry too.

Thanks for sharing your comments, Robert. Sounds like it really is an ideal spot to make your holiday base.

Hull is a very vibrant city, and always good to visit. Thanks for the tip about the free entry to the art gallery and museums - always good to know!

Thanks for your input.

Best wishes

Places of interest - Spurn Point

by gillbatt

It is very interesting to hear where people have been, and places to see.

We have been to Spurn Point, fantastic place, you can park the car & walk or (as my husband is disabled) you can for a cost drive the car down to the end, best £3.00 spent.

Hi Gillbatt

Thanks for the recommendation - would you believe we haven't been to Spurn Point yet - I really want to go as it looks stunning - if a little windswept.

We have some lovely photos on site, sent in by a reader - you can see them here and here...

I hope you like them :)

We have a little more info about Spurn Point and the lighthouses, here...

Sounds a fantastic way to spend £3.00!

Thanks very much for sharing your experiences.

Hollym Hidden Gem - The Plough Inn

by Jane Gill
(Hibaldstow Lincolnshire)

We had a traditional Sunday lunch at the wheelchair accessible country pub Plough Inn and it was delicious will be visiting again in a month when we check on our fully wheelchair accessible caravan Ggslegacy sited at Withernsea Sand Park Resort site.

Tasty lunch friendly atmosphere what more could anyone want. Wonderful.

The Plough can be found just off the Withernsea to Hull road A1033 . As well as the delicious food they have bed and breakfast accommodation from £27.50 per night (this accommodation isnt wheelchair accessible.)

The Plough also has a beer garden and games room not that anyone would want to sit outside in this freezing weather. Roll on SUMMER!!!!

Real Ale Too

The Plough is also a real ale pub having won the Camra award for East Yorkshire on several occasions. It is a nice pub with great beer and your dog is welcome too!

A new shopping experience in Withernsea

by Mike and Pat
(Leeds)

We recently called into a new shopping arcade named the Victorian Walk in Queen Street Withernsea. The place has been fully refurbished and hosts a variety of shops.

We stopped for a drink and a sandwich at the new cafe bar within the complex. The service was excellent and the place was spotlessly clean. The hosts are very friendly people and nothing was too much trouble for them.

Our bacon sandwiches and freshly brewed tea were excellent. The prices are also excellent one of the cheapest in Withernsea I would think.

The proprietors told us they are looking to enhance their menu with daily specials and any suggestions for meals to be added to the menu will be considered.

The alcoholic drinks are also very reasonably priced.

All in all a very pleasant experience and a asset to the town. We will be calling regularly in the future.

We (CSMA) are planning a trip to RAF Holmpton next year which will include a trip to Freeport Shopping centre at Hornsea. We will be having lunch at the Remars Pub which is on the corner of Queen Street and Pier Road.

This is just an advance notification and I will report back to you on this eatery etc. after the event!!

Thank you Jackie, I look forward to that. Please let me know what the trip to RAF Holmpton is like, too. I think Ian would enjoy a visit there.

Thank you - hope you all have a great time and enjoy the trip out.

Unfortunately Remars closes for good in December. The town council are buying it to turn into a cinema among other things. Your party will enjoy RAF Holmpton though.

Withernsea Golf Club Sunday Carvery

by Robert
(West Yorkshire)

Hidden jewel in the crown.

Great value Approx £8 for 3 courses, Fill your boots with giant helpings, best yorkshire pudding I have ever had.

Very relaxed friendly place - no need to dress up - no golf snobs there!

Just a little difficult to find for the first time.

Need to book to be sure of a table though.

Finding Withernsea Golf Club
by: Robert

Coming out of Withernsea towards Hollym, look out for the brown golf club sign on a lamp post pointing down a side road (right hand turn).

At the bottom of the side road take a left.

At the next junction take a right you will then come across another brown lamp post sign pointing left.

At the end of that road you will see the fairways in front of you, turn left and the clubhouse is at the bottom of the road on the right.

Great Food
By Miss Aston

19 June 2011

I've just been on holiday to Withernsea and I found the golf club on line when looking for places to go for Sunday dinner - it took us a little while to find the golf club but when we did find it the food was amazing.

The staff were very polite and service was amazing.

We even went back on the Tuesday night for the curry night and that was the same amazing food and service, we even sent comments back to the chef and the prices here are really good.

If I come back to Withernsea again for a holiday I will certainly becoming back to the Golf club for the carvery or the curry night

I don't know the answer to that, Jane. I suggest you contact the Golf club directly and discuss with them accessibility requirements to suit your party.

Hope it is!

Do let us know, if you can.
