Thinking of a day out or holiday at the Yorkshire coast with your dog?
Find out where dogs are allowed.
Unofficial guide to dog friendly accommodation, eating out, places to go, beaches etc...
When you are planning days out for all the family, it is nice if the dog can come too...
No more worrying about what that cheeky pup is up to at home... or rushing back to get home in time for the walk. Dogs love days out with their family, so it is lovely to be able to take them places too...
As the owner of a retired racing greyhound, Ginger, who sits nicely under my desk all week as I work from home, I love to be able to take him out and about with me when we visit the Yorkshire coast on the weekend...
Me and Ginger on Hornsea Beach
Of course, as you'll know if you have a dog, taking your dog with you can be difficult... dogs aren't welcome everywhere! So it is nice to be able to find places that both you and your dog can enjoy.
This page aims to bring together information from different parts of my site, and other sources, to be a good guide as to where dogs are allowed along and around the Yorkshire coast, whether for meals out, days out with the dog, walks along the beach, and more...
I aim to be as accurate and up-to-date as possible, but please check with each location or authority before taking your dog, for up-dated information and policies.

Dog Friendly Beaches at the Yorkshire Coast
Beaches are a wonderful place to take your dog for a run - and a great place for you both to enjoy the space and scenery.
Knowing exactly where you can take your dog can be problematic though... many of the main seaside beaches have dog bans only in the main season, and/or only on certain sections of the beach....

In addition, in most major seaside resorts along the Yorkshire coast, there are rules on dog fouling, and areas where your dog must be kept on a lead. See signs on location, or for more information about all of this, see:
Aside from these areas mentioned above, dogs are allowed on all other beaches in the area. Do remember that in most cases it is only the main, central areas of the larger resort beaches that are out of bounds to dogs - you can take your dog on the other areas quite happily.
Some more beaches where we like to take our dog, or have had recommended to us:
Fraisthorpe Beach - just south of Bridlington - huge and quiet - our favourite
Here are some dog days out we have enjoyed, or have had recommended to us. Please check with the locations directly before you set out for updated policies, or whether dogs are allowed on leads only or in restricted areas...

Where to Stay with Your Dog at the Yorkshire Coast
Ian and Ginger at Withernsea
We much prefer to holiday with Ginger, our dog... for a start we don't have to worry about him pining in kennels! It's also much cheaper to take him with us, than shell out for kennels, so mostly, he does join us...
When choosing accommodation for you and your dog, look at camping or static caravans and holiday parks and lodges, as these often permit dogs to stay in the accommodation.
We also like Hoseasons cottages for their high standards of accommodation and a good selection of dog friendly holidays. Click the image below to find your perfect pet-friendly holiday...
A day out with the dog is all very well, but you need to be able to find somewhere to eat with your doggie too... we find it much easier in Summer, when we can take a picnic, or eat fish and chips on the seafront...
...but, when the weather is bad, or in the depths of Winter, you need to know where your dog will be accepted for a meal...
I do hope that this resource will help you to make the most of enjoyable days out and holidays by the Yorkshire coast with your dog. There are lots of places where your dog is welcome, if you just know where to look...
Please remember to always be a responsible dog owner. Check signs for local bylaws for keeping your dog on a lead, and scoop the poop. Take plenty of water for your dog to drink, and never leave your dog unattended in a vehicle in warm weather conditions - if in doubt, leave your dog at home where he'll be safe!
